Meeting the teams with best ratings from Hattrick International

The very first season of Hattrick International came to an end. There are many users with different strategies in their mind, aiming to reach the best ratings as soon as possible or to simply focus on training at first.

We can see here:
(/World/Leagues/Stats.aspx?LeagueID=1000) the teams with best ratings of season 1.
As you might already think their managers main idea was oldies are goldies, but, if you want to find out a little more about their strategy, we invite you to read the entire article and join them on forum (17098056.1) for more questions.

Edwindb (12817800) - All Roads Leads To Rome (2052639)

My starting plan was quite simple. To do something completely different than I do with my two other teams in Holland and Ecuador. I chose to copy the strategy of this team, (1317904), exactly.
He reached the IVth division in Netherlands with old players, but that seems to be his maximum. That's because of the fact that it's not easy to compete with teams with much bigger fan clubs and with much more money. In Hattrick International, we all start with 0,00 €. So I do not have the problems he has to deal with.

My plan was: NO training at all! No assistant coaches, only a doctor, a psychologist and a form coach. So less chance for injuries...
I always train with 30% or even more stamina share. I do everything to get my golden oldies in perfect shape.
So I started with ten players with their main skill dedicated on playmaking, as high as possible - that was around world class PM. Just to overpower everyone at the beginning.
I started by playing my matches on 2-5-3, with all my forwards offensive and defenders offensive. I bought for around 300.000 € a complete team. I also bought two young goalkeepers for skill trading, in order to make some money meanwhile, too.

That really worked very well. I had 13 wins and 1 draw. The draw against one of the bottom teams in my league was really amazing. Unbelievable!
My Cup run was also okay, but my loss in the round of the last 16 was really sad. And that is because my main goal was to be the first HTI Cup winner in history. But International Monkeys had an enormous luck for several rounds.
Currently, I am preparing a team which objective is to promote to the fourth division next season. And that team is almost complete. The next phase is to create a bigger stadium and to change my coach. But winning the cup next season will be much more difficult. I don't think I will ever play a home game in the cup because of my team ranking. So I need a little more luck next season with the draw.

For the future: I am trying to be one of the 8 managers that has the chance to be the first champion of the first division in Hattrick Internatonal. :)

Zorbas (8338681) - Saint Lucifer FC (2053298)

Initially, I was planning to train Wingers, then I changed my mind, thinking that I could do some step trading with Goalkeepers. I gave up when I noticed how much time that takes, I only managed to do one such transfer. I bought some old players to strengthen my team, plus 2 Goalkeepers and I have been training Goalkeeping since then. Passable coach, 30% stamina share, 2 assistant coaches, 1 medic and 1 psychologist (all of them being Level 4).
I am contemplating selling the 2 Goalkeepers now, I could get about 3 millions Euro, but I think I'll push for another season of training.

I have a positive balance (due to a decent Cup season) and I'll see what I can do about expanding the arena. I am not planning to do more transfers, but that depends on how difficult will be the new league. My plan is to continue the GK training for another season, then sell them and start training Wingers.
As you can see, it is not a very elaborate plan. Keeping it simple did the work for me and I am looking forward to seeing whether I can repeat the performance next season.

altmann (9764648) - FC Altmann III (2054821)

I looked for a possibility to achieve good ratings just from the beginning to get enough points for the promotion on the first season. But, at the same time, I wanted to make some money to improve my team into the close future.

Therefore, I decided to train goalkeepers. I am surprised to be between the best ten teams on Hattrick International now, because I didn't sell my trainees yet. Most probably, I will sell them in week 2 and 5 of the second season.
I hope to earn nearly 2,6 millions Euro. The price money for the promotion and the league position I would like to use for the transformation of one of my own-players into a coach with passable leadership. So I will generate better ratings in midfield, because of an intelligent "PIC-PIN" strategy next season.

Further more, I want to raise up the stadium to earn more money from the spectators. The rest of them I would like to invest in the team. The aim is to have nearly the same ratings for all positions, a good balance within the team.
I only buy players with minimum passable stamina.

amsterdam_87 (11514225) - Poppen am Strand (2053293)

As far as my team is concerned, not so much of a secret. Back at the start of the season, I had to decide whether to concentrate on short term success or long term team development as the two extreme options (apart of all kinds of mixed strategies incorporating elements of both).

At that point, I did not really know what to expect from all other HTI managers, guessing that probably there would be all strategies chosen to a certain extend. As patience does usually not suit me in terms of Hattrick, I decided to go for the short-term success despite knowing that HT is mostly a marathon, hoping to be a little ahead of the others, especially the teams in the league. Sprinting as fast as possible and see how long "the breath will hold". :)

Initially, I was planning on incorporating some trading into the strategy, too, but with limited resources as well as crazy prices at times and keeping an eye on team spirit that did not really unfold the extent foreseen.
My strategy was decided even before the promotion set up (3 teams of each league) was announced (and probably also before the limitation of the amount of trades was made). In any case, the goal for the first half of the season was to stay in the Cup (and actually was hoping at some point, after seeing all ratings, to go very far, but that unfortunately did not work out) and stay out of financial trouble.
The team was build with hardly any trainees, trying to find a line up with "older" players which produces enough ratings and could be financially run. Ratings turned out to develop quite quickly to the extent needed. Finances were under control. Second half of the season was more or less administration of the status quo. In summary, the season was fine, the championship was reached relatively smoothly, the unfortunate (and very upsetting) elimination of the Cup was overcome at some point. I enjoy seeing the (average) ratings of my team among the best teams in HTI. So short term success, as have been planned, was reached. If this remains a valid option for next season needs to be seen as some other teams might gain both, financial and rating power, to be strong competitors.

Thunfisk (12203201) - Ramsvik colonist (2054685)

My initial plan was to go all homegrown. That plan lasted for about two hours after I got my team. Then I thought to buy some good trainees and train playmaking. So I started to think more and came to the conclusion that there will be 3k others users that have a good long term strategy. And all those teams will peak around the same time, and I don't want to compete against that.
So my conclusion was this: The only thing that matters is promotion. This season and the coming seasons.

Got myself a coach with passable leadership and changed my training to keepers, with high stamina, and started to buy oldies. Tried to get good buys and improve the team every week. Main focus was midfield, and to get decent overall ratings. When I was kicked out of the Cup by the luckiest team in HTI, International Monkeys (2052579) (no hard feelings :)), and saw that I am the leader and I have the best team into my series, I stopped buying new players.

Then I discovered I actually had one of the best teams in HTI and, so I tried to get on top of the HTI ladder, which I did, and, with a good bunch of luck, managed to keep that position for longer than anyone else so far. :)

HTI is a fun experience and experiment. Most of the managers playing HTI are experienced hattrickers, but nobody tried this before: everybody to start at the same time.
My guess is that those teams that didn't promote this season will have a very, very long way to get to the top of HTI. The first winner, and probably the first ten winners of HTI, will be found among the teams that promoted this season. If I manage to find the time needed to stay on top of things, I will try to get as far as I can with the only sensible plan/strategy in this concept for many seasons to come: Winning the next match.

Knobel (6007364) - See Emily Play Hattrick International (2054035)

Oh, not bad, I didn't see this list until now. :)
As I already had a homegrown team (my second team, Herr Gesangsverein (1002151)), I tried to use an "older players" strategy, very much like I do with my first team, since a couple of years.
In order to make money, I train goalkeepers, which means I only needed two trainees. My league mates were not a real challenge, so it was possible for me to PIC all the league matches and go for the HTI Cup. After losing into the 6th round of the Cup, I tried to go for the Emerald Challenger Cup, but finally I lost the semifinals.
As I had to strengthen my team from one cup round to another, to be competitive, I had quite good ratings at the end of the season. :)
I'm looking forward for the next season now! Maybe I will change my strategy, but this will depend on how my new league will look like.

crazymonkey2016 (8762035) - TaiwanPeishen ZBW (2053506)

Because Hattrick International is a brand new league, and everyone start at same time, my starting plan was simple:
1. Focus on League & Cup matches;
2. Don't train young players, use old players;
Generally, wingers and forwards are expensive, so I focused on old defenders and midfielders. They were much cheaper. As you can see, my team ratings: DEF>MID>ATT.
It's hard to build a high attack rating team with few money.
3. Hire a high leadership coach: high team spirit = high possession = high win rate.

What about my weaknesses?
I lost the CUP - (602728567), 6-1.
My opponent used 3 TDFs, that was out of my expectation and I used 3-5-2, when the experience on this formation was low...
If I would have been played 4-4-2 CA, maybe my chances would've been higher.

St3fy84 (5703904) - Scoring Elite (2054851)

When HI started, I decided to sacrifice training for performance, so I bought some decent old players and two young passable goalkepers for training.
I wanted to win every match and score a lot of goals, that's why I played most of my matches all offensive.
Don't know if it was bad luck or good luck that my team was kicked out of the HI Cup in the 6th round, but, after that defeat, I focused on Consolation Cup which I managed to win in the end: (603393421).

In my league, there wasn't any strong opponent, since other managers chose to train younger players.
About the performance part of the question... Well, I don't think we can say after only one or two seasons of HI that somebody made a big performance. From my point of view, the performance is when you win a World Cup medal, or when you win a first league or national cup in a powerful country or, of course, the Hattrick Masters.
